IS YOUR PATIO SPRING-READY?

MAKE SURE YOUR PATIO STAYS CRACK-FREE DURING THE WINTER

It’s mid November, and we’ve already had our first (and second) snowfalls, with many more to come. Winters in Central New York can be tough on your home, particularly if you have a deck or patio. Here are some tips on how to make sure your patio is winter-ready.

PROTECT YOUR PAVERS!

If you have a concrete paver porch, you probably already know that well-built pavers are designed to withstand the impacts of winter weather. That being said, there are still some things you can do to make sure your paver patio or porch makes it through the winter crack-free.

Spring is one of the most-awaited seasons in New York. The plants begin to bloom and as we say goodbye to the cold winter weather. It’s also the perfect time to revamp our home and give it a proper spring cleaning.

One of the main spots that you need to focus on cleaning is your patio. This outdoor space allows us to unwind, relax, and spend some time with our family and friends. Patios can make your place homier and can add value to your property – that’s why you need to make sure that it’s always in good condition.

Whether you want to make a major upgrade or you just want to get it ready for the warmer days ahead, here are some ways to brighten up your patio for the spring season.

SCRUB THE PATIO FLOOR

Winter is over, your patio area is finally snow-free and it’s now time to clean your floors to remove any winter debris. Wet the area by using a pressure washer hose, use waterproof gloves (knee pads might come in handy, too!) and scrub the entire floor with a hard-bristled brush.

Keep in mind that you need to do this during the time of the day when there is enough sunlight to dry your outdoor space.

PERK IT UP WITH SOME PAVERS

If you currently have a wooden patio and you want to refurbish to give it a new look, you can upgrade by using bricks or concrete paver blocks. These come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors so you can customize it according to your preference.

Pavers are less expensive to repair and if they accidentally crack, you can just simply replace it. Pavers also give a wonderful curb appeal to your home; they’re easy to maintain, can stay durable for long periods of time, and can transform your patio to Pinterest-worthy levels!

CLEAN OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Outdoor furniture needs some extra TLC after winter. In order to get them in the most tip-top shape, you need to clean them thoroughly and remove all the dirt that’s built up over the winter.

To get started, use a brush or a cloth to wipe off dust or any grime. For bigger pieces of furniture, use a hose and wash it with your favorite household cleaner. If you have machine-washable cushions, place them in the washer and use a gentle laundry detergent.

 ADD SOME PLANTS AND FLOWERS

Flowers begin to flourish during spring so now’s the right time to brighten up your patio with some potted plants. These plants could transform a very simple patio to a more vibrant, relaxing, and lively outdoor space.

Choose potted flowers or hanging plants that bring color to your space and will blend well with your furniture. You can also plant some spring-friendly herbs like dill, cilantro, and basil that you can use for cooking.
